Johann Friedrich Blumenbach
Johann Friedrich Blumenbach (1752–1840) was professor of medicine and natural history at the University of Göttingen and prosector of the Department of Anatomy. As overseer of the Academic Museum, he was responsible for inventory and guided tours for visitors. The catalogue he created in 1778 shows that the comprehensive collections were primarily for the university's internal use in research and teaching. When organising and creating the collections,
Blumenbach referred to his Manual of the Elements of Natural History and often employed his own descriptions of the objects. In this way, he was able to refute scientific views he did not agree with. Blumenbach's place of residence at Neustadt 12 was a stone's throw away from the Academic Museum.
